Spike Lee may revisit Katrina
Filmmaker talks upcoming projects at Silverdocs
The director of the HBO miniseries "When the Levees Broke" said Thursday he's considering visiting the area where Katrina struck again in the next 24 months for a potential follow-up to "Levees."
"I'm going to go back, not just to New Orleans but to other areas affected, because it's not over," he told audiences at Silverdocs, the AFI/Discovery Channel docu fest in Silver Spring, Md., where he received the fest's Charles Guggenheim award.
While Lee didn't specify what the project would cover, he hinted at its focus when he described his feelings about the current situation on the Gulf Coast. "What the press is not really talking about is the mental state -- suicide, self-medication," he said. "It's horrible."
Lee also said he thinks there's room for a scripted feature about post-Katrina New Orleans and tipped that "The Wire" creator David Simon, whose "Generation Kill" debuts this summer on HBO, may be working on such a pic.
Lee also offered other bits about his own work. He said that his day-in-the-life docu on Kobe Bryant would kick off the NBA season on ABC/ESPN this fall and revealed that his docu about Michael Jordan's last season could see a public unspooling in 2009, with the director planning a Croisette debut. "We hope to have the world premiere at Cannes next May," Lee said.
The auteur also revealed that longtime editor Sam Pollard is involved in the Ed Norton-produced docu about Barack Obama and has already collected more than 1,000 hours of footage.
Lee noted an Obama presidency -- which the director said Thursday was so certain that "there's no 'if' " -- would change the culture of filmmaking. "As an artist you reflect what you see in the world, so I think you'll see a lot of artists reflect the change for good that the country is going to embark on."
The eight-day Silverdocs fest just outside of Washington, D.C., showcases a mix of established and emerging nonfiction filmmakers. Lee was characteristically outspoken at the award presentation, saying he'd "love to see a great film on Martin Luther King, but I don't think I can do it. I can't do everything. I've got to leave something for Tyler Perry."

Rare Monroe footage fetches $60,000 at auction
Candid footage of Marilyn Monroe on the set of her last completed film brought in $60,000 at an auction of movie memorabilia Saturday.
The two reels of silent, 8-millimeter color film shot on the set of "The Misfits" had been expected to draw starting bids of between $10,000 and $20,000.
The auction also included the original disco ball from "Saturday Night Fever" and an original script of "The Godfather" signed by Marlon Brando. The sale was held by Julien's Auctions at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.
The 47-minute film, "On the Set with 'The Misfits,'" was shot by film extra Stanley Floyd Kilarr. It features candid moments with Monroe and co-star Clark Gable, as well as Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter and director John Huston.
The film shows actors preparing for scenes, chatting with crew members and others on the set, and relaxing between takes.
"The Misfits" was the last completed film for both Monroe and Gable.
Gable had a fourth heart attack just after filming was finished and died Nov. 16, 1960, about two months before the movie's U.S. release. Monroe died Aug. 5, 1962.
Cathy and Rod McCormick, of Sparks, Nev., obtained the film canister from her father, Frank Hasy, Kilarr's uncle.
Items sold early Saturday included a suit worn by Elvis Presley in the film "Viva Las Vegas," which drew a bid of $36,325. Alfred Hitchcock's driver's license sold for $8,000, and an original "King Kong" French film poster sold for $40,625, according to the auction officials.
Anna Nicole Smith's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead attended the auction and spent nearly $3,000 on lingerie once worn by the late Playboy playmate. Birkhead said he was picking up mementos for the couple's 1-year-old daughter, Dannielynn.

Though they were non the first gear to synthesize jazz and hip-hop, Digable Planets epitomized the mellow charm of jazz flower people wagerer than whatever group earlier or since. The trio's 1993 debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), was a mellowed turn on packed with samples from Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, and Curtis Mayfield, and the single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" became a Top 20 pop strike. After earning a Grammy for Best New Duo or Group and embarking on an ambitious duty tour that included several live musicians, the Planets returned in late 1994 with their c. H. Best album even. Jamboree Comb continued the group's jazz-rap merger, simply likewise sawing machine them branching extinct to embrace the old school sound of the street as well.
Digable Planets formed in the early '90s, when Butterfly (b. Ishmael Butler, Brooklyn, NY) met Ladybug (b. Mary Ann Vieira, Silver Springs, MD) piece attendance college in Massachusetts. The 2 later dependant up with Doodlebug (b. Craig Irving, Philadelphia, PA), in Washington, D.C., and began transcription. Their first-class honours degree individual, "Spiritual rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," released on the Pendulum subsidiary of Warner, attain the R&B Top Ten piece their debut, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), was a vital and commercial succeeder. Digable Planets' resulting spell had a laid-back vibe more in holding with a jazz show than any rap concert, though the live musicians were criticized for doing little more than re-creating samples from the record album. The trio solved that problem with the release of their endorsement album, Runaway Comb, in late 1994. Much stronger than its predecessor, it secondhand fewer samples and even included several solos. With no strong individual to bear it, however, Jamboree Comb's sales functioning was non up to that of Reachin'. After Blowout Comb, Digable Planets essentially dissolved referable to the awful "creative differences". All ternary continued making music singly, only despite many promises that the recordings would become actual releases, closely a decennium passed earlier releases appeared from Butterfly's Cherrywine send off, Ladybug's new charge Ladybug Mecca, and Doodlebug's Cee Knowledge. Then, just a few weeks shy of the ten-year anniversary of Jamboree Comb, the ternary announced that they had reunited to record their third Digable Planets record album. A digest, Beyond the Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles, filled the break patch fans waited for its release.

Sebastian Bach - Bach Rules Out Rose Reality Romp Rumours
Rocker SEBASTIAN BACH has ruled out plans for former GUNS N' ROSES frontman AXL ROSE to star in a new reality TV show, insisting his pal would rather pay millions to be left alone.
Former Skid Row frontman Bach had just taped reality show Supergroup for America's VH1 when he tried to persuade Rose to follow his lead and sign up for his own show.
But the reluctant rock recluse was far from amused at the idea.
Bach tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I go, 'Dude, I just shot this reality show for VH1 and they paid me this amount of money, man. It was f**king easy. It was only like two weeks. It was hilarious.'
"I said, 'Axl, if they paid me this amount of money, they'd pay you like a million bucks for 10 days of some s**t.'
"He's looking at me with this look on his face and he's all quiet and he goes, 'Sebastian, you don't understand... I will pay VH1 $2 million to leave me the f**k alone!'"
So, now, Bach admits he chuckles to himself everytime the Rose reality rumours come around: "I would bet my life you won't be seeing the Axl Rose reality TV show."

As a extremity of the Rolling Stones for three decades, Bill Wyman established himself among the greatest bassists in rock & seethe history; in tandem with drummer Charlie Watts, he belonged to one of the most stalwart rhythm sections in popular music, dead complementing the theatrics of Mick Jagger and the gamy guitar leads of Keith Richards. Born William Perks in London on October 24, 1936, Wyman was playing in a group called the Cliftons when he was asked to join the Stones in mid-1962, replacing bassist (and future Pretty Things extremity) Dick Taylor. Reportedly asked to join the group plainly because he had his have amplifier, he was, at age 25, by several years the oldest member of the group; regardless, his chemistry with the former bandmembers was immediate, and with the subsequent reaching of Watts, the definitive Rolling Stones lineup was shortly cemented.
The lie, of course, is history, and before too long the Stones were widely accepted as the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band. In 1974, Wyman became the first from their ranks to record a solo LP, the all-star Scamp Grip; two long time later, he recurrent the trick with Stone Alone. His next major english contrive was the 1985 incubate isthmus Willie and the Poor Boys, which too included Watts, Jimmy Page, and Paul Rodgers. While seldom the receiver of the kind of media attention granted his more notorious bandmates, Wyman launch himself at the inwardness of scandal in 1989 when he matrimonial model Mandy Smith, whom he'd begun geological dating when she was hardly 13 days old; they divorced a class later. Finally, in January 1993, he publicly proclaimed his long-rumored departure from the Stones, announcing plans to publish an autobiography, Stone Alone; in 1997 Wyman formed a new band, the Rhythm Kings, which featured guitarists Peter Frampton and Albert Lee as good former Procol Harum keyboardist Gary Brooker. The grouping debuted with the LP Struttin' Our Stuff, followed in 1999 by Anyway the Wind Blows. Wyman greeted the new century with a string of albums including Groovin' (2000), Three-fold Bill (2001), Simply for a Thrill (2005), and legion unrecorded recordings and compilations.
